The event took place at the Church of Scientology & Community Centre of Dublin. Speakers represented several areas of community work, providing participants with a broader picture of humanitarian activity in and around Dublin.
The work of Clondalkin Helping Homeless was outlined by Mayor of South Dublin Cllr. Francis Timmons, drawing attention to community-based responses to homelessness and financial hardship.
Viktor Kozyrev, co-founder of VOLA Enable, presented programmes designed to improve inclusion and quality of life for people with disabilities and Dublin other vulnerable groups.
The programme also included a presentation by Silvia Fani on the local and international work of Scientology Volunteer Ministers.
The Scientology Volunteer Ministers programme was founded by L. Ron Hubbard in the 1970s as an initiative for practical assistance to individuals and communities. Its motto is “Something Can Be Done About It.”
An interactive session later allowed participants to become familiar with several methods used within the Volunteer Ministers programme.
The gathering underlined the role that volunteers, civic organisations and religious communities can each play in supporting people facing difficult circumstances.
